Jornal3

I’ve just had two horrible weeks... I call them horrible because I was really busy. But still, I had a lot of fun these two weeks.
In 2009, Oct. 3rd is a traditional festival of china called the mid-autumn festival. In that day, people in china usually eat moon cakes and appreciate the beautiful full moon. This is the first moon festival I ever have without my parents and the mid-autumn festival should be a big party with all relatives and friends. It is kind of a great news for me that the CSSA(chinese students association) going to hold a big gala to gather all the chinese students to celebrate this festival together. In order to enrich my spare time I signed up to join the audition of the gala. Without any preparation, my friend Vicky and I went to the audition at gallop. Luckily, our beautiful voices(^-^)made the judges really happy so we became part of the show.
The thing happend next was way farer than our imagination. The rehearsal took us almost 4 hours a day. We rarely had time to study and all we can do was sitting on the floor and made the full use every single moment. The mid term was around the corner and we really nervous about our grade. On the one hand, we wanted to make it a great show. On the other hand, we can not get a bad grade in our first mid term. After a long time of consideration, some of the people just quit this group to focus on their study. Vicky and I were confused what should we do. I called my mom and asked her about this whole thing. She was one hundred percent supporting me to prepare for the gala and for the mid term because she thought it was a great opportunity for me to learn about the balance the daily activities and study issues. I thought she was right, I have to challenge myself and then to know what I can do.
Things turned out to be fine. My gala show was a huge success and my mid term was good. And what makes me surprise is that I did not feel any homesick at that period because I had full fill all my time with works.
Though my parents were not around me, I should say this is the best mid-autumn festival that I ever had.

  1. Hi Fiona, I'm glad to hear that you don't feel home-sicked. I found some grammar mistakes but I had no problem understanding your journal at all. Also, I don't know if Joy approves the usage of "faces" like (^-^) in your journal but whatever, it was a funny detail.

  2. Hi Fiona, I heard the gala show from my Chinese friends, and looked at some photos on Facebook. I believe the show was awesome. :)

As for the contents about your journal, I should say your journals (including previous ones) seem to be diaries, but the purpose for writing a journal is to provide you more chances to practice academic writing per se. So, I encourage you to change topics next time, and you can refer to possible topics on the course website.
Also, I bit of agree with Chris' idea about using emoticons. I, personally, use them a lot when talking to my friends, but they do not fit academic writing at all. I think using emoticons in your personal posts would be great, but you'd better avoid emoticons for academic journals. Carry on!
